South Surrey Interceptor Project - Metro Vancouver
South Surrey Interceptor Project: Metro Vancouver
The South Surrey Interceptor pipe collects sewage from South Surrey and Langley and conveys it to the Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant. In order to accommodate growth and enhance environmental protection, Metro Vancouver is constructing a second sewer near the existing pipe. Construction will take place in multiple phases over the next several years and includes both open trench excavation and tunneled sections of work.
The works also require the placement of Rip Rap along the bottom of the Fraser River to prevent further erosion of the river bed, North West Hydraulics on behalf of the owner. Metro Vancouver retained TyPlan to prepare a Marine Communication Plan to support construction over a navigable waterway. Unique to the works is the fact that up to 3 ocean going vessels per day will transmit the construction area and coordination with marine users is critical to manage the interrelationship between maintaining ongoing marine navigation and construction activities.
